Once used only for shallow post-harvest cultivation, today it is considered a universal machine, used for both shallow cultivation and pre-sowing cultivation. Whether a disc harrow will perform well in different field conditions depends on many factors. The most important factors are the discs used, their protection, and the angle of attack. Which discs should you choose for your disc harrow? Read our article to find out! <\/p>\n

Types of discs for disc harrows<\/h2>\n

Depending on their design, disc harrows<\/a> are equipped with different types of discs. The most popular types of discs are smooth and toothed discs. Which discs will work best in your machine depends on many factors, as each type of disc has its own specific operating characteristics. As a working part, the disc should also be well secured on the machine to avoid damage during operation. Let’s take a look at the types of discs and safety features used in AGROLAND disc harrows. <\/p>\n

Toothed discs \u00d8 560 mm<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>560 mm diameter, 4 mm thick toothed discs are standard discs used in AGROLAND TITANUM HEAVY, TITANUM STANDARD, and BORAZON disc harrows. These discs are made of boron steel, which makes them extremely durable and resistant to stones. The \u00d8 560 mm discs have 10 medium-sized teeth, making them suitable for both post-harvest and pre-sowing cultivation. The angle and shape of the disc cause the soil to be thrown to the side during the operation of the disc harrow, thus eliminating the problem of clogging and enabling work on soft ground, e.g., after plowing. The optimal working speed of a disc harrow equipped with \u00d8 560 mm discs ranges from 10 to 12 km\/h, maintaining a working depth of approximately 12 cm. These operating parameters ensure that post-harvest residues are thoroughly shredded and covered with soil. \u00d8 560 mm discs are universal discs that will work well on any type of ground and in all conditions. <\/p>\n

Toothed discs \u00d8 620 mm<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>Toothed discs \u00d8 620 mm with a thickness of 6 mm are special-purpose discs used in AGROLAND VIBROCUT, TITANUM HEAVY, and BORAZON disc harrows. These discs, like those with a diameter of \u00d8 560 mm, are made of boron steel, which makes them highly resistant to stones and abrasion. The \u00d8 620 mm toothed discs have 8 large teeth per disc. They are used in disc harrows designed for heavy field conditions, such as hard, clayey soils and heavily stony fields. Thanks to their thickness, they are much more resistant to mechanical damage than \u00d8 560 mm discs. The angle and shape of the disc cause the soil to be thrown backwards during operation, eliminating the need for side screens or disc cuts in the disc harrow, as the machine leaves no visible joints between passes. An unquestionable advantage of \u00d8 620 mm discs is that they will penetrate the soil in all conditions, even very difficult ones. However, problems arise when working on soft ground. The angle of the disc, its shape, and operating characteristics cause the disc on soft ground to tend to \u201ccurl\u201d the soil in front of it, which can cause clogging problems. The optimal working speed of a disc harrow equipped with \u00d8 620 mm discs is between 12 and 14 km\/h, and the effective working depth starts at 8 cm. The effects of a disc harrow with \u00d8 620 mm discs differ slightly from those of the aforementioned \u00d8 560 mm discs, as the machine will have no problem penetrating the soil, but crop residues will not be as well shredded as with smaller discs. <\/p>\n

CROSSCUTTER discs \u00d8 510 mm<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>CROSSCUTTER discs \u00d8 510 mm are specific discs used strictly for ultra-shallow cultivation in AGROLAND TITANUM HEAVY and BORAZON disc harrows. Boron steel is also used in the production of these discs. The difference in the appearance of these discs is, of course, their shape. CROSSCUTTER discs resemble corrugated discs in their design, but the corrugations on CROSSCUTTER discs are much larger and sharper. The optimal speed range for working with a machine equipped with such discs is between 14 and 16 km\/h. The working depth of these discs depends on the conditions in the field. The disc harrow should be heavy enough for the disc to penetrate the soil without any problems. The optimal working depth of the CROSSCUTTER \u00d8 510 mm disc is up to 5 cm under normal conditions. Due to the design of the disc, it will be difficult to achieve a greater working depth, as the contact area between the disc and the soil is larger than in a standard disc. CROSSCUTTER \u00d8 510 discs are excellent at shredding crop residues and mixing the soil at a very shallow depth. Under the right conditions, they can be used on any type of soil. They can also be used in disc harrows with a hydropack. The discs throw the soil backwards, so there is no need for side screens or disc cuts here either. <\/p>\n

What type of disc protection should you choose?<\/h2>\n

Disc protection is a machine component that cushions the disc working in the ground and transfers stress, preventing damage to the machine’s structural elements or the disc itself. The standard disc protection used in conventional disc harrows such as TITANUM STANDARD, TITANUM HEAVY, and BORAZON are rubber shock absorbers resembling a roller. This solution is sufficient to protect discs with a diameter of \u00d8 560 or less and CROSSCUTTER discs, as they generally operate under slightly lower loads. Discs with a diameter greater than \u00d8 560 mm can also be protected with rubber shock absorbers, but the diameter of the shock absorber should be slightly larger due to the higher stresses generated during operation. However, the best solution for discs with a larger diameter is the so-called spring strut protection, e.g. in the VIBROCUT disc harrow. A spring strut is a special steel structure that works like a spring, bending and returning to its shape under loads encountered during operation in heavy soil conditions or on fields with a large number of stones. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
